Peter encouraged his churches in 2 Peter 3:1 to “stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance.” Paul wrote to his young disciple Timothy reminding him to
“stir up the gift of God, which is in you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (1 Timothy 1:6-7).
In these two verses, Peter and Paul were pointing to something—they were pointing their disciples to who they were and what they had in Christ.
This is who WE are and what WE have.
We have the love, power, and purpose of Christ inside of us—it’s who we are. When you have God living in you, how do you release Him? By stirring up what you already have! God doesn’t NEED us to reveal who He is but He has CHOSEN us to partner with Him and gives us the ability to make His glory known on the earth. He has chosen to reveal Himself—His love, power, and purpose—through us!
What do we have that we can use to reveal Him? First of all, we can stir up our “pure mind.”—not our “carnal” mind which operates our body. We have the pure mind of Christ!
“For, ‘Who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?’ But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:16)
